About Bolt.Health
A note from founder, Kevin Dahlstrom:
Health and fitness are lifelong passions of mine. Over the past 25 years, I've put thousands of hours (and a lot of money) into research and trying new things. Those investments have paid off—at 54 I'm feeling and performing better than ever.
About two years ago I started Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) and it's the single most impactful thing I've done for my health and longevity.
But along the way I learned something:
The TRT protocol prescribed by almost all doctors (and online services) is outdated and suboptimal for health.
The TRT service I wanted didn’t exist… so I built it.
My Journey
I believe that Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) is the single best bang for the buck in men’s health and longevity—and it’s not even close. It’s the ONLY medical intervention I use and it’s not an exaggeration to say that it changed my life.
Despite doing all the right things to maintain my health, when I reached my mid-40s I began to feel less vibrant, with a variety of annoying symptoms:
Less energy (physical & mental)
Poor sleep & slow recovery from exercise
Low mood & irritability
Frequent colds & sinus issues
Lower libido
Since my mid-30s I’ve done blood work every 6 months and I noticed a sharp decline in one biomarker:
Testosterone.
Over the years I watched my T level go from 900 to 700, then 600, then 400. It’s normal for T levels to decline with age but in recent years this trend has accelerated.
Since the 80s the average T level among men has dropped about 1% a year, meaning that the average 22-year-old man today has a T level roughly equal to that of a 67-year-old man in 2000 (Braddock, 2021)
It’s a silent epidemic that is having a big impact on men’s health and society at large.
There are many ways to increase T levels naturally and I spent years exploring ALL of them—special diets, red light therapy, cold plunge / sauna, vitamins, herbs, injectable peptides, and Rx meds.
Some of the things I tried—such as maca root and Enclomiphene (an off-label use of an Rx drug)—did boost my number but I didn’t see much improvement in symptoms. I also experienced annoying side effects such as blurry vision and an agitated, angry feeling.
For years I resisted TRT for fear of becoming reliant on a prescription medication that may have long term side effects. But as my doctor told me, “Low T has pretty bad side effects too.”
Sooner or later all men have to make a choice:
Accept a slow decline in health & performance.
Do something about it.
I unapologetically choose option 2 and you're invited to join me.
When people think about testosterone, they often imagine bodybuilders and “ripped” fitness bros. While having a healthy T level does make it easier to add muscle mass and burn fat, that’s NOT the primary goal of TRT.
The goal of TRT is optimal health and longevity—in other words, feeling, looking, and performing your best into your 40s, 50s, and beyond.
For me the results were immediate and life-changing:
My immune system is much stronger. I used to get 2 or 3 colds and sinus infections each year. Now I rarely get sick and my tolerance for emotional stress is much higher.
I have more all-day energy, sleep better, and recover faster (a huge benefit for an aging athlete).
My brain works faster and my thinking is clearer. This is probably the single biggest benefit for me.
My libido and sexual performance improved dramatically.
My mood improved—I'm back to my sunny, optimistic self. This is a HUGE and underrated benefit of TRT for those who struggle with depression and anxiety.
What about side effects?
Just two: Slightly shrunken testicles and I’m probably infertile. I’m done having kids but for younger guys it’s a consideration (there are ways to mitigate these effects).
What about long term effects?
There's actually a growing body of evidence that long term TRT is beneficial for heart health and longevity. Studies have found that men with low T have significantly lower long-term survival rates compared to men with normal levels.
In the next ten years I believe that TRT will become a standard first line therapy for anti-aging.
My personal journey continues and about a year ago I stumbled into the relatively new concept of testosterone microdosing, which I believe will become the gold standard for TRT.
If you’re experiencing symptoms of low T, the first step is to get tested and meet with a Bolt.Health doctor to review your results and determine whether our T Microdosing Protocol is right for you.
Remember, your health is YOUR responsibility and nobody else’s. Educate yourself and don’t settle for anything less than feeling and performing your best!
To your health,
Kevin
